  • Poland's demands: Lifting the blockade on the border and negotiations with Ukraine

    Опубликовано: 2023-11-29 13:00:24

The Polish government has issued demands to Ukraine to lift the blockade on the border, which began on November 6 due to protests by Polish carriers.

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland has identified two checkpoints, Zosin-Ustyluh and NyzhankovychiMalhowice, where the Polish government proposes to cancel the mandatory registration of trucks in an electronic queue.

Poland's Infrastructure Minister Andrzej Adamczyk has appealed to Ukraine's Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov to cancel the mandatory registration in the eCheck system for vehicles returning from Ukraine to the EU without cargo.

The Polish government believes that the introduction of the electronic queue has significantly increased the waiting time for empty Polish trucks at the border, negatively affecting the competitiveness of companies.

Adamczyk called on the Ukrainian side to take immediate steps to fulfill the requirements of Polish road carriers. At the same time, he appealed to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the EU Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean to support his appeal.

Polish carriers began protests on November 6, demanding the return of the permit system for Ukrainian carriers that was in place before the "transport visa-free regime" agreement with the EU. This document has been extended until June 2024.

The European Commission may initiate criminal proceedings against Poland if the Polish authorities do not resolve the issue of blocking the border with Ukraine, as it is obliged to ensure the flow of goods from Ukraine through the solidarity corridors.
