The United States government has expressed serious concerns about the possibility that Iran is preparing to supply Russia with short-range missiles for use in a conflict against Ukraine. According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. officials consider this situation extremely disturbing.
The details of this problem emerged as a result of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu's visit to Tehran in September, during which Iran demonstrated Ababil and Fateh-110 missiles. This caused concern in Washington and raised the level of anxiety about Iran's possible involvement in military actions in favor of Russia in Ukraine.
A spokesman for the US National Security Council pointed out that Iran is considering providing Russia with ballistic missiles, which poses a threat to the security of the region.
Additionally, the US government expressed its belief that Iran is becoming an increasingly important strategic partner of Russia, with mutual benefits from this cooperation.
The National Security Council spokesperson also emphasizes that Russia is actively contributing to the improvement of Iran's military capabilities by providing it with technologies in the areas of satellites, air defense missile systems, and military electronics.
The recent reported landing of an Iranian Pouya Air IL-76TD cargo plane at Moscow's Vnukovo airport also raised serious doubts and concerns on the part of the United States, indicating that military cargo could be transported to Russia.
