Cyprus joins the G7 Vilnius Declaration on Security Assurances for Ukraine

Cyprus has joined the G7 Vilnius Declaration on Security Assurances for Ukraine, making the announcement on November 2 via its official X social media page. This decision was a forward-looking and logical step for the Republic of Cyprus in the context of supporting Ukraine in the context of the exacerbated geopolitical situation.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy personally thanked President of Cyprus Nicos Christodoulides for joining the declaration and noted that the Republic of Cyprus became the 30th country to join this important document.

The G7 Declaration was approved during the NATO Summit in Vilnius on July 12 and became an important step in supporting Ukraine and discussing bilateral security commitments. The first signatories to the declaration were Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Later, other countries joined the act, including Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. After them, other countries, including Spain, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Portugal, also expressed their support.

The joint declaration states that the signatory countries intend to work together with Ukraine on an expanded package of security commitments and arrangements that will help Ukraine defend its territory and sovereignty in the event of future aggression.

The accession of the Republic of Cyprus to this declaration is another step in strengthening international support for Ukraine in the face of a difficult geopolitical situation and the escalating conflict in the east of the country.
