  • Hungarian President Calls for Resetting Relations with Ukraine

    Опубликовано: 2023-08-28 11:00:04

Hungarian President Katalin Novak has expressed her readiness to improve relations between Hungary and Ukraine after important talks with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This initiative, according to Bloomberg, is based on five points that should help improve cooperation between the two countries.

One of the key points is Budapest's support for Zelenskyy's peace plan, which provides for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the entire territory of Ukraine. This initiative aims to soften the friendly rhetoric of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban toward Russia.

After the talks, Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for the visit and expressed his readiness to cooperate with Katalin Novak in improving bilateral relations.

It is important to note that Katalin Novak visited Zakarpattia on August 22, and she has previously spoken out in favor of a peace plan to end the war in Ukraine that would not lead to a Russian victory.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has been criticized for his ambiguous statements about Russia's aggression against Ukraine and was even included in the Myrotvorets database. However, he admitted that Hungary will have to reconsider its friendly relations with Russia due to the changing geopolitical realities after the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This initiative demonstrates the desire to improve relations between Hungary and Ukraine in the context of the escalating conflict in eastern Ukraine.
