  • France returns to order after unrest as government reassures citizens

    Опубликовано: 2023-07-05 17:30:20

Thanks to the measures taken by the government, the state of order in France is gradually returning to normal after almost a week of unrest caused by the death of a 17-year-old teenager in a police shooting. This is reported by the Euractiv portal.

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said that order was being restored in the country and that the unrest was gradually subsiding. However, police officers will remain on the streets until calm is fully restored, the minister added.

"Our priority is to ensure the restoration of the republican order," French Prime Minister Elizabeth Born said on Monday evening after meeting with leaders of various political groups in parliament.

The government mobilized 45,000 police officers and gendarmes to ensure public order. Unrest continued across the country on Monday evening, but fewer arrests and fewer fires were reported compared to previous nights. Over the past three days, police have made about 3,200 arrests, an unprecedented number, Darmanen said.

The unrest in the country was triggered by the death of a 17-year-old teenager who was shot dead by a police officer. This event became a catalyst for mass protests and conflicts with law enforcement agencies. Unrest has spread to several cities across France, including Paris, Lille, Lyon, and Marseille. Citizens are demanding a fair investigation into the teenager's death and punishment for those responsible.

The government reaffirms its determination to restore calm and security to the country and to do everything possible to prevent similar events in the future. The involvement of a large number of police and gendarmerie demonstrates the seriousness and recognition by the government of the need to respond to the unsatisfactory situation.

The events in France have once again drawn attention to the problem of police brutality and the use of force. The incident prompted a public dialog about the need for changes in the police apparatus and the need to ensure transparency and accountability of law enforcement agencies. The government has stated its readiness to consider reforms in this area and take the necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

After a week of tense events in France, the time has come to restore calm and resolve the situation. All parties involved, including the government, law enforcement agencies and civil society, should work together to find compromise solutions and improve understanding between the police and the community.
