Dynamics of marriages and divorces in Ukraine: analysis for 2023

According to the Ministry of Justice, more than 186 thousand marriages were registered in Ukraine in 2023. This means a noticeable decrease in the number of marriages compared to previous years, as well as an increase in the number of divorces and marriage agreements.

An analysis of data conducted by the Opendatabot portal shows that in 2023, the number of marriages in Ukraine decreased sharply by 16% compared to the previous year. This shows alarming trends in the dynamics of new family formation.

Kyiv, Dnipro and Odesa regions became the leaders in terms of the number of marriages in 2023. However, even in these regions, the number of marriages has decreased compared to previous years.

Despite the overall decline, some regions, such as Kharkiv, recorded an increase in the number of marriages. However, in most regions there is a downward trend in the number of marriages.

At the same time, the number of divorces increased by 35% compared to the previous year. Kyiv leads in the number of divorces, but this trend is observed in all regions of the country.

Among the factors influencing these trends are economic and social factors, such as economic instability, changes in society, and others. It should be borne in mind that this data is not exhaustive, as many divorces are finalized through the courts and can last for years.
