The Ministry of Energy is assessing the consequences of canceling the change of clocks for the energy industry

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine assures that the cancellation of the change of clocks will not have a significant impact on the country's energy system. This was announced by Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.

According to the department's estimates, the transition to constant time will not cause significant changes in the energy balance of Ukraine. "Our calculations do not show dramatic consequences for the energy industry as a result of the cancellation of the clock change. From the point of view of time, these changes will not have a significant impact," Galushchenko noted.

Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a draft law, which provides for the cancellation of the transition to summer and winter time. This decision was supported at the general level, and now Ukraine will remain on the single time regime throughout the year.

However, this decision caused concern in the Academy of Sciences of the higher school, which appealed to President Volodymyr Zelenskyi with a call to veto the new law. The president of the institution, Oleksandr Nakonechnyi, expressed concern that canceling the change of clocks may lead to an increase in lighting costs in the evening hours in spring, summer and autumn.

The Academy fears that if the new legislation is implemented, Ukrainians will spend more electricity on lighting in the evening, which may negatively affect energy costs at different times of the year.

It is currently unknown how exactly this legislation will be implemented and what adjustments may be made based on the feedback received. However, the Ministry of Energy already assures that the overall impact on the energy system of Ukraine is expected to be minimal.
