  • Maersk announces the resumption of shipping through the Red Sea: Protecting and restoring trade

    Опубликовано: 2023-12-27 16:00:28

Maersk, the world's largest maritime cargo carrier, is set to resume shipping through the Red Sea after it was suspended due to attacks by Yemeni Houthi rebels. This became possible thanks to the launch of the international naval operation Operation Prosperity Guardian (OPG), which aims to protect shipping in the region.

According to The Washington Post, Maersk has received confirmation of the creation and deployment of Operation Prosperity Guardian (OPG). This initiative will allow maritime trade to safely pass through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, ensuring the return to the use of the Suez Canal as a key route between Asia and Europe.

Maersk said it is already working on plans to immediately resume the movement of its ships through the Red Sea. Against the backdrop of Houthi attacks from Yemen, which have caused serious disruption to shipping through the Suez Canal and the Red Sea, this new initiative will ensure safety for ships and their crews.

Threats by Houthis to attack ships heading to or from Israel have led major shipping companies, including Maersk, to avoid the Red Sea, opting for routes around Africa and the Cape of Good Hope. The new initiative is designed to restore this important transportation route and support global trade.
