Since the beginning of Russia's occupation of Ukraine, British intelligence has calculated the losses of the Russian army, providing rough estimates of the number of killed and wounded soldiers. The data indicate serious losses, but even the Kremlin admits that the exact numbers remain unknown.
Between February 24, 2022 and November 2023, the Russian army is estimated to have lost between 180,000 and 240,000 servicemen as a result of injuries and about 50,000 were killed. The mercenaries of the Wagner Private Military Complex also suffered heavy losses - approximately 40 thousand wounded and 20 thousand killed.
The total losses of the Russian side are estimated at 220 to 280 thousand wounded and about 70 thousand killed, and the total number of losses of Russian units is in the range of 290 to 350 thousand, the intelligence noted.
It is important to note that even among Russian officials, there may be a low level of understanding of the true losses due to the culture of false reporting by the Russian Ministry of Defense, British intelligence emphasized.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of December 4, the total number of Russian losses in Ukraine is about 332,810 servicemen. British intelligence also indicates that the attacks of the Russian military in the Avdiivka sector led to a 90% increase in occupant losses.
Additionally, information from the United States indicates that the Russian military is becoming a victim of its own failure to comply with orders on the battlefield during the war with Ukraine. British intelligence also emphasizes that the morale of the personnel of the Russian occupation army is low, and unprepared mobilized soldiers are unable to launch an effective offensive due to post-traumatic stress disorder and lack of adequate psychological support.
