  • Switzerland supports Ukraine: contribution to EBRD capital

    Опубликовано: 2025-05-16 10:00:04

Switzerland has demonstrated its support for Ukraine by agreeing to pay 6.4 million euros for the country’s participation in the capital of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). This decision was the result of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries.

The memorandum, signed at the EBRD forum in London, provides for the allocation of funds to purchase additional shares of the bank, which will allow Ukraine to maintain its influence in important decisions. This is extremely important in the context of global challenges, in particular during a war, when the restoration of the economy and infrastructure is of critical importance.

The Swiss contribution of 6.4 million euros was received irrevocably, without creating an additional debt burden for Ukraine. The Minister of Finance of Ukraine expressed gratitude to Switzerland for this initiative, emphasizing the importance of strategic partnership and mutual trust between the countries.

According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, Switzerland has already provided significant assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict, including humanitarian aid and financial support. Switzerland’s new commitments for 2025–2028, amounting to over $1.7 billion, demonstrate its deep commitment to the development of humanitarian and economic initiatives in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side expressed confidence in further strengthening cooperation with Switzerland, which will become the basis for the successful implementation of joint projects and programs for the benefit of both peoples.
