  • UAE and Turkey join the EU's restrictions on exports of military goods to Russia

    Опубликовано: 2023-11-13 17:00:34

The latest elaborate step by the European Union is an agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to restrict re-exports to Russia of key goods used in the Ukrainian war. According to Bloomberg, Turkey is also considering similar measures.

The UAE's steps and Turkey's possible measures will cover direct re-exports and mark a victory in the direction of banning the flow of military products to Russia, which was made possible by re-exports through third countries.

The European Union has stepped up measures to enforce trade sanctions aimed at complicating Russia's ability to obtain priority goods used in or for weapons in Ukraine.

The UAE official emphasized that the country has a legislative framework for export control and constantly monitors the export of dual-use products. The UAE maintains a close dialogue with international partners regarding the war in Ukraine and its impact on the global economy.

The European Commission and the Turkish Ministry of Commerce refrain from commenting on this issue.

The recently introduced EU measures include various instruments to monitor compliance with the sanctions, including a ban on exports of certain goods to companies and third countries. The new EU sanctions package is expected to extend the restrictions to other goods, including welding machines.
