    Orange and yellow foods such as carrots, pumpkin, peppers and citrus fruits are rich in beta-carotene, which is a precursor to vitamin A. This vitamin plays an important role in maintaining strong gums.

    Oily fish and fish oil are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which not only promote healthy hair and nails, but also have a positive effect on teeth.

    Foods rich in probiotics, like fermented milk products, help maintain a healthy oral flora and prevent the growth of harmful bacteria.

    However, Rick Hay cautions against over-consumption of red meat, which, in addition to potentially getting stuck in between the teeth, can promote pathogens in the gut, which can ultimately affect the health of the teeth and the body as a whole.
