The national energy company Ukrenergo has received three modern autotransformers purchased with funds from the governments of Japan and Sweden with the assistance of the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine (UNDP). This assistance is another important contribution to the stabilization of the Ukrainian energy system, which has suffered serious losses due to Russian aggression.
According to the Ukrenergo press service, the new equipment will support stable transmission of electricity to consumers in various regions of the country. This is a critically needed infrastructure that provides electricity to millions of Ukrainians, including medical institutions, schools, kindergartens and civil defense facilities.
Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko stressed the importance of such assistance, noting that uninterrupted power supply is the basis of the country's life, especially in conditions of constant threat of new shelling. According to him, the transferred autotransformers are not just equipment, but "a means of providing light and heat in the homes of Ukrainians."
Autotransformers play a key role in the operation of the energy system: they reduce the voltage class when transmitting electricity from generation to consumers, ensuring stable operation of networks. The manufacture of such devices is a complex and lengthy process that lasts from several months to a year, and there are only a few manufacturers in the world.
Given the limited number of enterprises capable of producing these high-tech components, autotransformers remain a scarce and expensive resource. That is why their loss due to shelling has extremely painful consequences for the energy system, and international support in this area is worth its weight in gold.
Acting Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo Oleksiy Brecht recalled that during the full-scale war, Russia carried out more than 45 massive attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, destroying a large amount of strategic equipment. He thanked the governments of Japan and Sweden, as well as UNDP, for their unwavering solidarity with Ukraine and real assistance at the most critical moment.
