  • Space race: Blue Origin is looking for a place outside the US for a spaceport

    Опубликовано: 2023-07-05 09:20:02

Blue Origin, the space company owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, plans to find a new launch site outside the United States in its bid to compete with SpaceX, Elon Musk's company. This was stated by Blue Origin CEO Bob Smith in an interview with the Financial Times.

Blue Origin also expresses interest in building new international partnerships and acquiring companies, particularly in Europe. "We're doing everything we can to acquire, expand, and better serve our customers," Smith emphasized.

The process of finding a new launch site is still at an early stage, and no specific location has been selected. However, these statements indicate a more active position of Blue Origin, founded by Bezos in 2000. Blue Origin was the first company to successfully launch, land, and reuse a rocket. However, delays in the development of its own launch vehicles have left it behind SpaceX, Musk's company, which has already carried out several successful missions to the International Space Station, both manned and unmanned.

Experts believe that further acquisitions and partnerships, as well as an additional launch site outside of Texas and Florida, could help Blue Origin close the gap with SpaceX. Caleb Henry, an analyst at Quilty Space, believes that Blue Origin's plans for Europe can help attract new talent in times of fierce competition for skilled workers.

"Europe is known for its space industry professionals, and this could be a way for Blue Origin to continue to grow," Henry said.

In recent years, the space industry has become much more competitive, with new entrants and changing market conditions. Blue Origin and SpaceX are actively competing for dominance in the commercial launch market and the development of space tourism. Looking for new opportunities and partnerships with European companies, Blue Origin is trying to find its place in the global space sector.
