European Investment Bank to provide Ukraine with €300 million for energy and infrastructure

The European Investment Bank (EIB) continues to support Ukraine amid the war and the restoration of destroyed infrastructure. New financing agreements were signed in Brussels, under which Ukraine will receive €300 million for the modernization of the energy sector, heat supply systems, water supply, as well as for the restoration of social infrastructure.

The signing of the documents took place within the framework of the official meeting of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal with the President of the EIB Nadia Calvino. According to the head of government, the funds will be distributed equally across three main areas, €100 million each.

The first area covers investments in district heating, energy efficiency measures and the purchase of critical equipment, including combined heat and power plants. This will increase the resilience of energy systems in the face of military threats and peak loads.

The second block of financing will be directed to projects in the field of water supply and sanitation. Restoration and renovation of infrastructure in this area will ensure stable provision of services to the population, reduce water losses and improve the quality of treatment.

The third area includes the restoration of critical infrastructure facilities - heating networks, water pipelines, as well as the modernization of social institutions in the fields of healthcare, education and housing. This will ensure not only an improvement in the quality of services, but also the creation of more comfortable living conditions for Ukrainians.

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, the EIB has already provided Ukraine with over €2 billion for urgent needs. In addition, the bank has allocated another €100 million from its own funds for technical assistance - to prepare reconstruction projects that will meet international financing standards. The Government of Ukraine expressed gratitude for such consistent support and emphasized the importance of further partnership with the bank in rebuilding the country.
