DTEK has received a grant of 11 million euros from the French government to implement the project of the first digital substation in Ukraine. The total cost of this innovative energy facility is 15 million euros, of which 4 million euros are DTEK's own investments. The implementation will be carried out using modern GE Vernova technology, which will ensure a high level of automation and efficiency.
According to the company's press service, the new digital substation will become a key facility for stable electricity supply in the region of Ukraine that was destroyed by the war. After commissioning, it will provide reliable electricity supply to more than 65 thousand households and enterprises, contributing to the reconstruction of the economy and improvement of the energy infrastructure.
DTEK CEO Maksym Timchenko emphasized that this project is not only a technical upgrade, but also an important step towards Ukraine's energy independence. According to him, the construction of a digital substation will strengthen cooperation between Ukraine and France, and will also become the basis for further modernization of the country's energy sector.
The digital substation is included in the list of 19 important energy initiatives that were approved at the level of intergovernmental negotiations in Paris. Its financing is carried out within the framework of the "Fund for Ukraine" for 200 million euros, created by France to support critical infrastructure. This program provides for the restoration of energy facilities damaged during hostilities, as well as the introduction of modern technologies in the energy sector.
The digital substation project is part of the broader "Network of the Future" initiative, which is aimed at modernizing Ukraine's electricity networks using Smart Grid technologies. Such technologies allow for flexible load management, increasing the efficiency of electricity consumption and improving its distribution. This is critically important for the country's economic recovery and ensuring its long-term energy sustainability.
DTEK reported that preparatory work for the construction of the substation has already begun. The main part of the construction work will start in the third quarter of 2025. The implementation of this project will be an important step towards the restoration of the Ukrainian power system and its integration into modern European standards.
