Ukraine allocates over UAH 1.5 billion to restore Chernobyl NPP shelter after drone attack

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has decided to allocate over UAH 1.5 billion to ensure the safety of the Chernobyl NPP shelter after it was hit by a Russian drone on February 14 of this year. These funds are intended to support and restore the facility in proper condition to prevent any potential threats to the environment and ensure stability of the situation at the plant.

This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, emphasizing the importance of this funding for maintaining safety at one of the most critical nuclear facilities in the country. According to him, compared to 2024, the relevant funding has been increased by UAH 139 million, which indicates a high level of attention and priority of this issue for the Ukrainian authorities.

"Russia has once again used terrorist methods against nuclear facilities. The drone attack on the Chernobyl NPP shelter is another attempt to intimidate Ukraine, Europe and the whole world," Shmyhal said, focusing on the threats that this aggression poses to global security.

Fortunately, there is currently no radiation threat after the attack. Specialists continue to work on eliminating the consequences of this attack to ensure the full stability and safety of the shelter. It was noted that work to restore the facility is ongoing, and the situation is currently under control.

Additionally, as reported by the representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, the government has also made amendments to the relevant resolution regulating the use of budget funds to maintain the "Shelter" facility in a safe condition and carry out work to decommission it. These steps contribute to further strengthening safety at the Chernobyl NPP and reducing any risks for the region and the country as a whole.
