Ukrainian Government Launches Housing Rental Subsidies for IDPs as Part of Winter Support

The Ukrainian government has announced the launch of a new housing rental subsidy program for internally displaced persons (IDPs) as part of the Winter Support initiative. The program will come into effect in January next year, which will reduce the financial burden on IDPs who are forced to spend a significant portion of their income on housing rentals.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal announced that subsidies will be provided to those IDPs who spend more than 20% of their income on rent. Thanks to the new program, the state will partially compensate for these expenses, helping to reduce the economic burden on IDPs who have found themselves in difficult conditions due to the war.

In addition, the government plans to compensate landlords for part of their income taxes if they rent apartments or houses to IDPs under official contracts. This will be an additional incentive for homeowners to participate in the program and provide housing to IDPs at affordable prices, which will also contribute to improving housing conditions for people who were forced to leave their homes due to hostilities.

Denys Shmyhal emphasized that the new housing rental subsidy will operate throughout Ukraine. The government has already adopted relevant changes to the legislation, which will allow expanding access to this program to all regions of the country. Thanks to this, internally displaced persons will be able to receive the necessary support regardless of the region in which they temporarily settled.

The launch of this initiative is an important step towards social support for citizens affected by the war. For many displaced persons, renting housing is a serious financial burden, and the subsidy program will be a significant help for them. In addition, it will help stabilize the rental market and increase the number of affordable housing for people who lost their homes due to the conflict.
