  • Explosion at the Zaporizhzhya NPP: IAEA notes the threat

    Опубликовано: 2024-06-17 09:30:01

Experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recorded an explosion at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZAEP). A mine exploded near the cooling pond, causing serious concern to the international community.

This was reported by the IAEA press service, noting that the incident took place on June 11. One of the mines near the ZNPP cooling pond exploded, posing a potential threat to the plant's safety.

According to the IAEA, no one was injured as a result of the explosion, and no damage was recorded. However, the situation remains tense, because such incidents can have unpredictable consequences for the safety of the nuclear power plant.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stressed that an explosion so close to the station is a serious cause for concern. "This latest explosion, which happened so close to the station, causes serious concern and worsens the already fragile situation," he stressed.

The Zaporizhzhia NPP is under the control of the occupation forces, which greatly complicates control and ensuring security at the facility. The IAEA continues to monitor the situation and calls for compliance with international safety standards.

This incident highlights the need for constant international monitoring of security at nuclear facilities, especially in conflict zones. The IAEA plans to continue its efforts to ensure security and prevent similar threats in the future.
