  • Elon Musk's Neuralink: Brain Chip Clinical Trials Begin

    Опубликовано: 2024-05-30 14:00:35

Neuralink, the company founded by Elon Musk, plans to begin clinical trials of its brain chip on three patients. These tests are expected to be carried out over several years, Reuters reports.

The main goal of Neuralink is to create an implant that will enable paralyzed individuals to use digital devices with the help of thoughts.

Last year, Neuralink said it intended to enroll 10 patients when it applied to US regulators for clinical trials.

According to the plans, Neuralink plans to complete the study by 2026, and by 2031 full information about the results of the company's tests is expected.

The clinical trials will enroll patients between the ages of 22 and 75 who have had limited mobility for at least one year, with a life expectancy of 12 months or more.

Applicants must have limited or no mobility in the hands, wrists and forearms due to a spinal cord injury or a neurological disorder such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

In January of this year, Neuralink successfully implanted a chip into the brain of its first patient, who is paralyzed below the shoulders as a result of an accident in 2016. This chip allowed the patient to play video games, browse the web, and control a computer cursor with his thoughts.
