Ukraine and Japan continue to strengthen their economic ties. The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and the Japan Business Federation "Keidanren" signed an important memorandum that provides for the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the framework of supporting the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine and the development of economic cooperation between the countries. The signing of this document was the result of a meeting held in Tokyo with the participation of business representatives of both countries.
The event, which brought together more than 100 Japanese companies, was attended by enterprises from various sectors, including energy, finance, agribusiness, mechanical engineering, logistics and construction. The Ukrainian side was represented by more than 20 companies engaged in production, trade, the agricultural sector, IT and other areas. Such a large delegation demonstrates the growing interest in interaction between Ukrainian and Japanese businesses.
The memorandum, signed by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko and the Chairman of the Committee for Cooperation with Ukraine of the Japan Business Federation Fumiya Kokubu, aims to continue cooperation for the active participation of Japanese companies in the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war. Svyrydenko emphasized that it is the private sector that will become the main engine of economic development and reconstruction of the country, therefore it is important to attract Japanese investors to create joint ventures, localize production and supply high-tech equipment to Ukrainian industry.
One of the priorities for Ukraine is the creation of joint ventures with Japanese companies and the introduction of the latest technologies that can significantly improve the efficiency of production in Ukraine. In addition, Svyrydenko appealed to the Japanese government with a request for support in the restoration of destroyed enterprises and infrastructure. She noted that Japanese companies are already actively entering the Ukrainian market, and today more than 40 Japanese companies operate in Ukraine, which is evidence of successful cooperation between the states.
Japanese companies also presented their initiatives aimed at meeting the urgent needs of Ukraine. One of the important topics raised by businessmen is the issue of project financing, reducing the risks of doing business in wartime, in particular through insurance against war risks. In addition, Japanese entrepreneurs expressed concern about travel restrictions and suggested reviewing these restrictions to facilitate more active involvement of the private sector in Ukraine's reconstruction projects.
For its part, the Ukrainian government is actively working to create favorable conditions for foreign investors, in particular Japanese ones, to ensure their participation in the reconstruction of infrastructure and production facilities. The Ukrainian government believes that cooperation with Japanese business can be an important step towards stabilizing the economy and its further growth after the end of the war.
In general, the signing of the memorandum between Ukraine and the Japan Business Federation opens up new opportunities for developing cooperation between the two countries and attracting Japanese investments in key areas of the Ukrainian economy, which is extremely important for its post-war reconstruction and sustainable development.
