Consequences of the Russian missile strike: Environmental damage and recovery measures

The Russian Federation's attack on the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant, Ukraine's largest hydroelectric power plant, caused significant environmental damage. According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection, losses are estimated at more than 140 million hryvnias, and more than 600,000 tons of waste have accumulated across the country as a result of all the destruction.

"The estimated damage from the attack on the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant is 140 million hryvnias, but the figure may change during further calculations, as not only the waste from the destruction is taken into account, but also the threat of water pollution and the impact on the ecosystem," he said.

Among the consequences of the intrusion, experts recorded soil contamination and an oil slick in the river with an estimated weight of 0.5 tons. The situation after the incident was stabilized, but the state of water resources below the Dnipro hydroelectric dam is constantly monitored by experts from the State Environmental Inspectorate and the State Water Agency.

"So far, we have not recorded any excess of oil products in the water, but we continue to closely monitor the situation," added the head of the Ministry of Environment.

Significant efforts have been made to eliminate the consequences and restore the ecosystem, as well as reduce the impact of pollutants on natural resources. Experts continue to work to determine the full extent of the damage and effective restoration measures.
