An alarming exceedance of the epidemic threshold for SARS, influenza and COVID-19 has been recorded in the Chernivtsi region of Ukraine, the Ministry of Health reports. Over the past week, 5,586 cases of these diseases have been registered, which creates disappointing indicators for the region.
Compared to other regions, the situation in Zhytomyr region remains stable, with an epidemic threshold of 8,738 cases, which is the average level. However, in other parts of Ukraine, the non-epidemic level has not yet been recorded.
It is important to note that the epidemic threshold is determined for each region based on the population and the intensity of the spread of respiratory viral infections.
Deputy Minister, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Ihor Kuzin explained that if the epidemic threshold is exceeded, local authorities may take enhanced anti-epidemic measures, such as local quarantine and other restrictive measures to reduce the spread of diseases.
Since the beginning of the epidemic season in October, more than 1.5 million Ukrainians have contracted SARS, influenza, and COVID-19. In the last week alone (December 4-10), 155,539 cases were registered in the country, of which 84,823 were among children under the age of 17.
Ukraine is facing a serious epidemiological situation, where more than half of hospitalizations are due to coronavirus and influenza. In total, since the beginning of the epidemic season, more than 1 million cases of influenza and coronavirus have been reported in Ukraine. Currently, 13 strains of COVID-19 are circulating, and regional authorities are considering various scenarios to introduce the necessary measures to reduce the risk and further spread of the epidemic.
