  • Zelenskyy to address US senators before vote on financial aid to Ukraine

    Опубликовано: 2023-12-06 13:00:13

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will address United States Senators on Tuesday, December 5, at a secret briefing via secure video conference. According to The Hill, this will take place one day before the Senate votes on a foreign aid package, including more than $61 billion for Ukraine.

Following a warning from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, the administration invited President Zelenskiy to address senators so they could learn directly about the state of the war in Ukraine and the need for further military aid.

Earlier, in September, Zelenskiy warned senators that Ukraine would not be able to win the war with Russia without additional assistance from the United States.

On Monday evening, Schumer filed a motion to consider a bill that would provide an additional package of financial assistance to Ukraine. The details of the package are still being discussed, but disagreements between the parties over immigration reforms are holding up the process.

The majority leader called for this issue to be taken seriously, as Ukraine is running out of resources to counter the Russian invasion.

It is worth noting that Republicans have expressed their intention to vote against consideration of the bill without additional provisions to strengthen border control in the southern United States. If their demands are not taken into account, the bill will not receive support in the House of Representatives, where Republicans have a majority.
