  • More than 13,500 Ukrainians have returned through the humanitarian corridor from Russia

Since the reopening of the humanitarian corridor in Sumy region, more than 13,500 Ukrainians have returned to Ukraine from Russia through a single checkpoint. This was reported by the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories.

It was recorded that the amount of financial assistance for Ukrainians who returned through the humanitarian corridor is currently more than UAH 18 million. Mobile operators provided 545 starter packages free of charge.

A transit center and an "invincibility point" have been set up for people crossing the border. Work is underway to install a mobile shelter for 100-150 people, and a bus evacuation route Sumy-Poltava-Dnipro has been operating for a week.

Closed as a result of Russia's full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, the only checkpoint on the Ukraine-Russia border is now operating as a humanitarian corridor between the villages of Pokrovka and Kolotylivka. This checkpoint can only be passed in one direction - to Ukraine - and only on foot.

It should be reminded that the passage through this checkpoint was resumed on August 5. As of early October, more than 10,000 Ukrainian citizens, mostly from the occupied regions of Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk, and Luhansk, have used it.

On the Ukrainian side of the border, there is a volunteer humanitarian center where Ukrainians can receive free psychological, legal, and humanitarian assistance. The premises are equipped for short-term stays and have all the amenities.

The Ministry of Defense assures that it is providing comprehensive support and assistance to the evacuees, including cash assistance at the train station and accommodation in a modular town in Vyshgorod district. An evacuation train from Sumy to Kyiv has also been launched, allowing people to reach the capital safely.

The hotline of the Sumy Regional Military Administration and the round-the-clock hotline of the Ministry of Reintegration are available for calls at (0542) 77-99-55 and 15-48, respectively, as well as via WhatsApp/Telegram/Viber at (096) 078-84-33.
