Polish carriers have gone on strike at several checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Polish border, including Korczowa-Krakowiec, Hrebenne-Rava-Ruska, and Dorohusk-Yagodyn. This action harms the interests of both Ukraine and Poland, and may also undermine the functioning of the Solidarity Roads initiative. This was reported by the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian side is actively maintaining contact with Polish partners, the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland, the European Commission, and is also communicating with Ukrainian carriers and border services to resolve the situation.
However, it is important to note that the Ukrainian side has not received any official demands from the Polish carriers who went on strike. The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine expresses its readiness for dialogue, but notes that this requires an official and reasoned position from the Polish partners.
Polish carriers are putting forward a number of demands, including the abolition of transport visa-free travel for Ukrainian carriers and a return to the system of freight transportation permits. Currently, the EU-Ukraine agreement regulating this area is valid until the end of June 2024, and it is almost impossible to cancel it at the level of the Polish government.
Polish hauliers also demand separate lanes and queues for trucks with EU license plates and empty vehicles and access to the "Shliakh" system.
Although Polish carriers initially planned to blockade the border between Ukraine and Poland on November 3, their action was postponed.
It should be noted that in Ukraine, most of the demands of Polish carriers that led to the blockade of border crossing points are considered unrealistic.
