A significant symbol of eternal memory - the National Military Memorial Cemetery - will appear near Kyiv

A significant symbol of eternal memory, the National Military Memorial Cemetery, will appear near Kyiv, on the territory of the Gatnenska rural territorial community of Fastiv district, Kyiv region, by July 30, 2025. This important initiative, approved by Government Resolution No. 870, aims to honor the contribution of soldiers and heroes who dedicated their lives to serving their country.

The total area of the future cemetery will be 258.7 hectares, with the main area covering 7.9 hectares. The project envisages a large complex of buildings and areas, including a columbarium, a ritual building and a museum complex. In addition, the memorial cemetery is designed for 50,000 burials, including honorary ones.

The process of establishing the National Military Memorial Cemetery will include an architectural competition to develop the concept of buildings and other necessary facilities for organizing honorary burials. This will ensure proper attention to detail and dignity of the future monument.

Previously, it was planned to locate the military cemetery on Lysa Hora and near the village of Bykivnia. The Kyiv City Council has even started preparatory work on land plots for the creation of the National Military Memorial Cemetery in Bykivnia. However, it was later decided to support the draft law No. 9240, which determined the location for the memorial cemetery on Brovarskyi Avenue, not far from the Bykivnia Graves National Historical and Memorial Reserve. This reserve became the resting place for victims of the mass political repressions of 1937-1941.

Thus, the creation of the National Military Memorial Cemetery near Kyiv marks a new page in Ukraine's history, where every drop of holy soil earned will deservedly serve as evidence of devotion, heroism, and true patriotism.
