President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a draft law regulating the procedure for selecting candidates for the position of judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

The President announced this during his evening address to the public on August 17.

"I have just signed one of the key laws that Ukraine needs to start negotiations with the European Union on the possibility of our country's accession to this organization. Negotiations are scheduled to begin this year. This law guarantees a transparent, professional and fair selection of judges for the Constitutional Court. Thus, Ukraine is moving closer to EU membership," Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.

The President emphasized that thanks to this draft law, Ukraine is even closer to joining the European Union.

Although the President did not mention the number of a specific draft law, it is likely to be draft law No. 9322, which provides for clarification of the provisions on the competitive selection of candidates for the position of judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. The document was supported by the Verkhovna Rada on July 27 this year.

This draft law amends the Code of Administrative Procedure of Ukraine, the Rules of Procedure of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, as well as the Laws of Ukraine "On the Constitutional Court of Ukraine" and "On the Legal Regime of Martial Law".
