  • Russia is ready for a terrorist attack at ZNPP, says Ukraine's Foreign Ministry

    Опубликовано: 2023-06-30 09:40:55

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said that Russia has the means and motivation to commit a terrorist act at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). This statement was made during his speech at the annual security conference of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Kuleba emphasized that the occupation of the plant by Russia and its transformation into a military base allows Russia to use ZNPP as a tool for nuclear blackmail. He called on OSCE participating states to recognize that Russia has no place at this table.

The minister recalled the explosion at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant three weeks ago, which led to a technological catastrophe and a crime of ecocide. He emphasized that this terrorist act showed the aggressive behavior of the Russian Federation and the large-scale consequences for people and the environment. Kuleba also expressed gratitude to North Macedonia for its position on the defense of OSCE principles in the face of Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

The Minister said that Russia's impunity for illegally detaining OSCE staff and stealing the organization's vehicles cannot be tolerated. He emphasized that there is no way to conduct a civilized dialogue with a country that attacks densely populated residential areas, commits crimes against humanity and tries to destroy Ukrainian statehood and national identity.

Kuleba emphasized that Ukraine must fight for its freedom and territorial integrity. He reminded that Ukraine has a specific vision of restoring a just and lasting peace, which is set out in the "peace formula" proposed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Kuleba called on the OSCE to actively contribute to the implementation of this formula.

The Minister emphasized that it is time to act pragmatically, as discussions without practical solutions are no longer effective. He called for finding a way to stop Russia's participation in the OSCE in order to preserve the organization and its commitment to the values and principles of the Helsinki Final Act. Concluding his remarks, the Minister called for an end to Russia's impunity and a ban on its presence in the OSCE.

This statement by the Ukrainian Foreign Minister reflects serious concerns and outrage over Russia's possible terrorist attack on the ZNPP. Ukraine calls on the international community to respond to this threat and take the necessary measures to prevent such events. Resolving this issue will be an important step in ensuring peace and stability in the region.
