Latvian parliament declares 9 May this year as Memorial Day for the Victims of Ukraine

The Saeima has approved an initiative to ban the celebration of 9 May in 24 hours. The date has also been declared Memorial Day for Victims in Ukraine.

At the same time, as Delfi reports, opposition MP Maris Kucinskis asked during the debate not to set May 9 as Victims' Memorial Day in Ukraine only to prevent the celebration of Victory Day. However, his proposal to return the bill to the commission did not pass.

Mass entertainment and celebrations are now banned in Latvia on 9 May. Also on 8 and 9 May, fireworks will be banned throughout the country.
