Pope Francis has said he is considering a visit to the Ukrainian capital despite Russia's war.

This was reported by Reuters.

Asked by a reporter during a flight to Malta if he was considering an invitation from the Ukrainian political and religious authorities, Francis said: "Yes, it is on the table," but did not provide further details.

Last month, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko sent a letter to Pope Francis urging him to visit the capital, saying his presence would be "key to saving lives and paving the way for peace."

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy also invited Pope Francis to pay a visit to Ukraine.
