  • Caring for a newborn in hot weather

    Опубликовано: 2025-05-01 15:28:23

The birth of a child is a long-awaited event that brings joy and at the same time many new concerns. If the baby was born in the summer, it is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of care in the hot period. High temperatures, active sun and insects can create additional difficulties for the newborn. To avoid unpleasant situations, it is important to follow a few simple rules.

One of the main threats in the summer is sunburn. The baby's skin is very delicate and is not able to withstand the aggressive effects of ultraviolet radiation. Therefore, direct sunlight should be avoided, especially during the hours of their greatest activity - from 10 am to 4 pm. For protection, it is better to use light clothing made of natural fabrics that covers the body, as well as hats. Older children can use sunscreens, but before doing so, be sure to test them on a small area of the skin.

Another danger is overheating. The thermoregulation system of newborns does not work as effectively as in adults, so they quickly overheat. Clothes should be chosen according to the weather, do not wrap the baby too much. Signs of overheating may include restlessness, reddened skin, and lack of urination for several hours. If the child is overheated, it is important to move him to a cool place, give him some water (if permitted by the pediatrician) and wipe the body with a damp cloth.

Summer is also the season of active insects, whose bites can be unpleasant and even dangerous. The skin of a baby reacts sharply to the bites of mosquitoes and other insects, allergic reactions are possible. It is not recommended to use repellents near the child, so the best way to protect yourself is mosquito nets on the windows and stroller. You can also dress the baby in light clothing with long sleeves when walking in places where insects accumulate.

Walks in the fresh air are extremely useful for newborns, but in the summer you should be careful. The best time to go out is in the morning or evening hours, when the sun is not so active. If the child sleeps in a stroller outside, it is important to ensure that direct sunlight does not fall on him. It is also not recommended to be in noisy places, as loud sounds can cause anxiety in the baby.

In the heat, many people want to turn on the air conditioner, but this is not safe for a newborn. Sudden changes in temperature can weaken the immune system and cause a cold. If an air conditioner is used in the room, it is important to keep the baby away from the flow of cold air and not set the temperature too low. The best option is to ventilate the room before bed and use the fan at minimum power.

In the first weeks after birth, it is important to limit the baby's contact with a large number of people. The baby still has a weak immune system, and even a harmless infection can be dangerous for him. Therefore, it is better to postpone visits from numerous relatives and friends, allowing the child to adapt to new living conditions. A calm atmosphere, proper care and concern from parents will help the baby comfortably survive the hot season.
