Average Pension Size in Ukraine: Analysis and Overview for April 2025

As of early April of this year, the Pension Fund of Ukraine has published data on the average size of pension payments in the country. According to information from the PFU, the average amount of pensions as of April 1 was 6,341.11 hryvnias. The majority of Ukrainian pensioners receive pensions that do not exceed 5 thousand hryvnias.

Ukraine has 10.3 million pensioners, of which about 2.9 million continue to work after the pension is assigned. This year, various types of pensions were assigned, according to such categories as age (72.5%), disability (15.24%), loss of breadwinner (6.6%), length of service (5.08%), social pensions (0.53%) and lifetime maintenance of judges (0.04%).

According to general indicators, the average pension in Ukraine varies depending on the categories of pensioners. For example, the average pension for working pensioners is 6862.86 hryvnias, which is slightly higher than the general average.

One important aspect is the distribution of pensions by payment size. Today, the majority of pensioners (56.57%) receive pensions that do not exceed 5000 hryvnias. In particular, 3.86% receive less than 3000 hryvnias, which is a noticeable decrease compared to last year. However, there is an increase in the number of pensioners (32.33%) who receive pensions from 3001 to 4000 hryvnias, as well as those who receive from 4001 to 5000 hryvnias (20.38%).

The largest percentage of pensions, namely 28.92%, is assigned in the amount from 5001 to 10000 hryvnias. Pensions in the amount of more than 10000 hryvnias are received by 14.51% of pensioners.

All this indicates a difficult social situation and the need for further improvement of the pension system to ensure a decent life for Ukrainian pensioners.
