Maxar Technologies Restores Satellite Imagery Access for Ukraine

Maxar Technologies, a leading US aerospace technology provider, has restored access to satellite imagery for Ukrainian users through the GEGD (Government Enhanced Geospatial Data) program. This program, created by the US government, provides commercial satellite imagery collected by the US government for analysis and use.

This fact was confirmed by reports from several Ukrainian users of the service who were able to regain access to the necessary data. The GEGD program has long been an important tool for Ukrainian analysts, military and other specialists working with geospatial data.

However, until recently, Ukrainian accounts in this program were temporarily disabled by order of the US government. During this interruption, Maxar Technologies explained the disconnection as an "administrative request". However, in fact, the reason was the United States government's ban on providing intelligence data to Ukraine.

This ban was imposed by the administration of President Donald Trump through a decision of the US State Department. According to this order, American companies and commercial services were not allowed to provide satellite data to both government and private users of Ukraine. This became a significant obstacle to obtaining important information used to analyze the situation in Ukraine, as well as for military and civilian purposes.

The re-granted access to satellite images from Maxar Technologies means an important step in restoring Ukraine’s analytical capabilities in the context of war and post-war reconstruction. Satellite images are an important tool for monitoring changes in the terrain, planning infrastructure projects and providing assistance in combating the consequences of war.

The restoration of access to such data confirms not only the importance of satellite images for Ukraine, but also signals the resumption of cooperation between Ukrainian and American companies in the current geopolitical situation.
