Ukraine is actively preparing for the cessation of Russian gas transit, which is due to take place from January 1, 2025. According to Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko, the country has long begun preparations for this step, taking a number of important measures to ensure energy stability.
Galushchenko noted that Ukraine has made serious preparations for the possible cessation of gas transit, thoroughly checking the gas transportation system. In particular, several stress tests were conducted this year to check how the system will work in conditions of zero transit. This includes checking the operation of gas pipelines and other key infrastructure facilities.
"Our position is completely open: we are preparing for zero transit from January 1," the minister emphasized, emphasizing that the preparations lasted a long time and included a comprehensive approach to ensuring the security of the country's gas supply.
In addition, Galushchenko noted that Ukraine already has the necessary experience to ensure the uninterrupted operation of its gas system, even if gas transit through the country is terminated. The Ministry of Energy and other responsible bodies continue to work to strengthen the state's energy security.
Key aspects of the preparation include the creation of gas reserves to meet the needs of the population and enterprises, as well as the improvement of national infrastructure networks to ensure a stable supply of energy carriers.
Ukraine is actively cooperating with international partners to reduce the potential negative impact on the economy and ensure energy independence. One of the important steps is the diversification of energy supply sources, in particular through the development of gas imports from other European countries.
Thus, Ukraine is already at the final stage of preparation for the completion of Russian gas transit and is ready for the challenges that may arise as a result of this change.
