At the UN COP29 climate conference, Ukraine announced its ambitious plans for environmental initiatives, presenting an investment portfolio of green projects worth a total of $78 billion. This step demonstrates the country's determination to develop the economy with an emphasis on sustainability and environmental safety.
According to the Ministry of Economy, the basis for these projects was the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), which was developed and approved in less than a year. As Deputy Minister of Economy Andriy Telyupa noted during the conference, the document contains 140 specific measures aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 65% by 2030 (compared to 1990 levels) and achieving a 27% share of renewable energy sources in total energy consumption.
To implement the goals of the NPEK, a large-scale investment portfolio has been developed, which includes 260 private investment projects worth $50 billion and 140 public investment projects worth $28 billion. This covers both infrastructure initiatives and the development of the latest technologies focused on environmental modernization.
One of the key dates for the implementation of these projects will be 2025, when the first pilot initiatives will be presented at the Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine. This will allow attracting international investors and partners to finance "green" reforms.
The government places particular emphasis on the circular economy - a model that involves minimizing resource use, reducing waste and pollution. According to Andriy Telyupa, the "build back better" principle is fundamental to the country's recovery strategy. It involves abandoning traditional linear production models in favor of resource-efficient approaches that will contribute to sustainable industrial development.
This initiative of Ukraine demonstrates its desire to become a leader in the implementation of innovative environmental solutions on the international stage. If successfully implemented, it will not only ensure the sustainable development of the state, but also strengthen its position as a reliable partner in the fight against climate change.
