DTEK plans to restore up to 70% of lost generation by October: challenges and prospects

DTEK is setting ambitious goals for restoring its generation, which was severely damaged by massive Russian shelling in March 2024. According to the company's plans, it intends to restore 60% to 70% of the lost capacity by October this year. This was announced by Dmytro Sakharuk, executive director of DTEK energy holding, during the forum "The Future of Ukrainian Energy. Dialogues with NV", as stated in "Economic Truth".

Saharuk said that today the company has lost about 90% of its generating capacity due to shelling. Restoration of 60-70% of generation will be carried out at the expense of DTEK's own funds, as well as due to the use of old equipment that is removed from stations in Europe. This will significantly improve the situation with electricity supply.

At the moment, all DTEK power plants are left without roofs and walls, which makes them vulnerable to low temperatures. Saharuk emphasized that even the restored equipment will not be able to function without proper conditions. Therefore, restoration of premises is critically important, but currently donors are not ready to finance these works. Sakharuk estimated that the needs for the restoration of the premises amount to about 350-400 million dollars.

The executive director noted that the plans to restore the generation by 60-70% are possible only if there are no new shellings. The situation remains tense, and the restoration of power plants requires both financial and material resources.

The head of the communications department of DTEK Energo, Viktor Zinchenko, also demonstrated the extent of damage to the company's thermal power plants that occurred as a result of Russian attacks during 2023-2024. These demonstrations once again emphasized the seriousness of the situation and the need for urgent infrastructure restoration.
