DTEK plans to restore lost generation by October: challenges and prospects

Ukrainian energy giant DTEK is actively working to restore its production capacity after significant losses caused by massive Russian shelling this spring. According to the executive director of the company, Dmytro Sakharuk, it is planned to return to operational capacity 60-70% of power generation by October of this year.

DTEK lost about 90% of its generating capacity due to the shelling, leading to serious challenges for the operation of power plants across the country. Saharuk noted that the company plans to restore a significant part of the lost capacity by using its own funds, as well as by restoring equipment that is no longer in use at stations in Europe.

The restoration of power plants faces numerous difficulties. Saharuk emphasized that most of the stations currently have no roofs and walls, which makes it difficult to operate the equipment in conditions of low temperatures. Even refurbished equipment will not be able to function properly without the necessary infrastructure.

Financing the restoration of stations is also an extremely important issue for DTEK. Sakharuk noted that currently donors do not show sufficient willingness to finance the restoration of premises, although this is a primary necessity for the proper operation of power plants. He estimated the current financial needs at the level of 350-400 million US dollars.

According to experts, restoration of lost generation is critically important for ensuring stable energy supply of Ukraine, especially in conditions of geopolitical instability and military threats. DTEK is focusing its efforts on the rapid restoration of production capacities, relying on internal resources and international cooperation.
