  • Strike of Polish carriers: Fifth border crossing point at risk of blocking

    Опубликовано: 2023-11-24 12:00:31

The ongoing strike by Polish carriers at the border, which has been going on for three weeks, may cause even more obstacles for freight transport. According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, Polish carriers are planning to block the fifth checkpoint, Nyzhankovychi - Malhowice, which will lead to even greater paralysis for truckers.

Currently, the electronic queue of trucks at the Nyzhankovychi - Malhowice checkpoint has increased by 700 vehicles, as indicated by border guards.

Rafal Mekler, the leader of Polish carriers, publishes a map showing the places on the border that are not yet blocked for exit from Ukraine. "There is room for escalation," Mekler writes.

Currently, two checkpoints on the Polish border remain unblocked: "Nyzhankovychi-Malhowice and Ustylug-Zosin.

Today, Polish protesters blocked the Medyka crossing point, which led to the suspension of truck traffic. This is the fourth checkpoint to be blocked on the border with Ukraine. Since November 23, Polish farmers have supported the strike by blocking traffic at the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint near Przemysl.

"We are holding a warning strike of farmers who demand compensation from the government for losses due to the opening of the EU market for Ukrainian agricultural products supported by the government," the protesters said.

As a result of protesters blocking traffic on the border with Ukraine, 2,600 trucks are currently queued up, said Andriy Demchenko, a spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
