PACE recognizes Putin as a dictator and Russia as a de facto dictatorship

On October 13, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted an important resolution that has a significant impact on the assessment of the political regime in Russia. The resolution recognized Vladimir Putin as a dictator and Russia itself as a de facto dictatorship.

According to Oleksiy Honcharenko, MP and PACE member from Ukraine, the resolution was adopted unanimously with 43 votes in favor. This important and decisive resolution condemns Russia's actions, and the people of Europe are already demanding that countries execute the arrest warrant for Putin issued by the International Criminal Court.

The document also calls on the countries of the world to consider Putin an illegitimate president after his presidential term ends in March next year, and to stop all contacts with him.

The resolution notes that in Russia, a lack of political culture has led to passivity and the virtual absence of civil society.

It is noted that Russia uses acts of aggression against sovereign nations as a strategy to enhance the domestic image of its leader, and examples of this include the Chechen wars of the late 1990s, Russia's influence in the Transnistrian region of Moldova, and its aggression against Georgia in 2008.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, reacted to the decision and welcomed it, noting that it is another step in recognizing Russia as a dictatorship and illegitimate leader.

The PACE verdict is another significant step in the international arena, showing the world the reality of the political regime in Russia and its responsibility for its actions in Ukraine and beyond.
