Olha Tverdokhlibova, a veteran of World War II, phoned the local draft board, aiming to join the army.
Olha Tverdokhlibova is 98. She is going through a second war in her life. In both wars she’s had a clear position to go and defend the Motherland.
At the beginning of WWII, nobody wanted to admit Ms Olha to the military school because of her age: she was a minor. Yet eventually, being a girl at that time, she got into a secret intelligence unit, where she stayed till the end of the war. And she met the long-awaited day of victory in the city of Berlin.
A month ago, on 24th February, Ms Olha decided to go to war again when she heard that Russia invaded Ukraine. But she was refused again. This time because of her venerable age.
‘I’m sure the victory is ours,’ the veteran says.
