Many people believe that vacation is a time for recovery, solitude, and recharging. But the reality is not so rosy. It is before a trip that couples most often face unexpected stress, which can lead to arguments. Choosing a destination, budget, and vacation duration — all of this becomes a reason for arguments even before packing their bags.
According to a survey conducted by the British travel company Ebookers, 74% of respondents consider vacation the ideal time for romance. However, more than half of couples admitted that discussing the route can turn into a real conflict. Almost 37% of couples cannot agree already at the stage of booking tickets or a hotel, and arguments arise even over small things like the view from the window or the type of food.
Money is another source of tension. Expectations may not coincide: one wants a luxury resort, the other - an inexpensive hike in the mountains. Financial disagreements often cause irritation and a feeling of injustice, especially if the couple did not agree in advance who pays and how much.
Time spent together can also be a test. If in everyday life the spouses see each other only in the evenings, then a sudden transition to round-the-clock interaction on vacation can be difficult. In the first days, relaxation may not come - rather, on the contrary, habits that were not noticed before begin to irritate.
Nevertheless, despite all possible friction, vacation does not necessarily destroy relationships. According to the results of the study, 56% of respondents admitted that they return home with a feeling of greater closeness. Shared experience, even with minor conflicts, brings people closer - if the couple is ready to compromise and knows how to listen to each other.
To avoid quarrels, psychologists recommend discussing the details of the trip in advance, not trying to please everyone at once and remaining flexible. Perhaps a vacation is not only a way to change the environment, but also a chance to test the stability of the relationship in new conditions.
