  • Canada tightens sanctions against Russia: new restrictions and support for Ukraine

    Опубликовано: 2025-03-04 18:00:46

Canada continues to expand economic pressure on Russia in response to its aggression against Ukraine. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the introduction of new sanctions during the "Securing Our Future" summit held in London. These sanctions are part of Canada's strategic efforts to support Ukraine and deter Russia.

According to an official message on the website of the Prime Minister of Canada, 10 individuals and 21 organizations have been hit by the new restrictions. Among them are paramilitary groups and their leaders who actively support Russia in achieving its political and military goals in Ukraine. In total, Canada has already imposed sanctions on more than 3,000 individuals and organizations involved in the war in Ukraine.

The summit, which discussed the new sanctions, also became an important platform for discussing international support for Ukraine. The leaders agreed that sustainable peace in Europe is impossible without ensuring security guarantees for Ukraine, and any negotiations on the peace process must include representatives of Kyiv. This emphasizes Canada's unwavering position on the need to ensure the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Canada remains one of Ukraine's main allies on the international stage. Since 2022, the country has provided Ukraine with almost $20 billion in assistance, including military support, funding for infrastructure restoration and humanitarian assistance. The Canadian military also continues to conduct training for Ukrainian servicemen as part of Operation UNIFIER. Since 2015, more than 44,000 Ukrainian fighters have been trained under the guidance of Canadian instructors.

In addition, Canada is actively working with international partners to hold Russia accountable for violations of international law. Particular attention is paid to war crimes and the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children, which have become part of Russia's brutal policy towards Ukraine. Prime Minister Trudeau noted that supporting Ukraine will remain a top priority for Canada, especially as it assumes the G7 presidency in 2025.

Thus, Canada continues not only to provide important support to Ukraine, but also actively works to increase pressure on Russia through sanctions, demonstrating its unwavering position on the Kremlin's aggression and violation of international norms.
