The administration of US President Joe Biden will announce a new military aid package to Ukraine in the coming days worth about $1.2 billion. This will be the latest aid in a program aimed at supporting Ukraine's defense capabilities in the face of war with Russia.
According to Reuters, citing two sources, the new package will include interceptor missiles for air defense systems (ADF), as well as artillery ammunition. However, the exact composition of the aid will become known only after the official announcement, which will be made in the coming days.
It is noted that the equipment and ammunition that will be transferred to Ukraine will be purchased from defense manufacturers or from US partners. This means that some of the aid may not reach the front until several months or even years later, depending on production and logistics deadlines. Therefore, although the aid is significant, it may not have an immediate effect on the current situation on the battlefield.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the United States has provided Ukraine with over $175 billion in aid, of which about $61.4 billion is security assistance. This funding has been used to purchase and supply a variety of military equipment, weapons, and ammunition to help Ukraine maintain its defenses.
The U.S. military assistance program includes not only direct military equipment, but also support in other areas, such as training the Ukrainian military, providing medical supplies, and equipment to maintain the combat readiness of the army. This demonstrates the strategic approach of the United States to supporting Ukraine in the face of a protracted war.
At the same time, Ukraine highly appreciates the assistance from the United States, emphasizing its importance for ensuring national security and restoring stability in the country. However, due to logistical delays and production constraints, it is important to understand that such assistance cannot be used immediately, and its impact on combat operations will be gradual.
