In Ukraine, the professional standard of the customs officer is being updated: New requirements and international standards

The State Customs Service of Ukraine has started the development of a new professional standard for the position of "Customs Inspector". This initiative is aimed at systematizing the requirements for the profession, increasing the level of personnel training and their compliance with international standards. For this purpose, a working group was created, which included leading specialists of the customs service, scientists and representatives of the public.

According to the State Customs Service, updating the professional standard will allow creating a clear system of requirements for knowledge, skills and competencies necessary for the successful performance of duties of a customs officer. This will also contribute to the improvement of the system of training future specialists studying in higher educational institutions in the field of customs affairs. The new training methodology will focus on the best international practices.

In recent years, the system of training customs inspectors in Ukraine remained without significant changes, which created a gap between modern requirements and real competencies of specialists. Now the State Customs Service seeks to correct this shortcoming, laying the foundation for long-term development and adaptation of customs personnel to modern challenges.

At the moment, an application for the development of a new standard has already been submitted to the National Qualifications Agency. A joint working group is actively working to define key requirements and criteria to ensure that the new standard meets the highest professional and international requirements.

According to representatives of the State Customs Service, this process is important not only for the improvement of the customs system, but also for increasing the efficiency of the entire customs service in the conditions of modern challenges and international integration. This update should help in the further modernization and improvement of the efficiency of Ukrainian customs.

Thus, the initiative to create an updated professional standard "Customs Inspector" aims to improve the quality of professional training and introduce new approaches to customs affairs that will meet the requirements of the times and international standards.
