During a joint meeting, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico discussed plans for cooperation in the fields of energy, transport and infrastructure, which not only strengthen ties between the two countries, but also contribute to the development of border regions. One of the key aspects of this cooperation is the provision of emergency power supplies from Slovakia in the event of a blackout in Ukraine.
Denys Shmyhal emphasized the importance of joint efforts to achieve victory and a just peace in Ukraine. He expressed gratitude to Slovakia for constant support of Ukraine's European integration aspirations and willingness to share experience and provide expert assistance, which is an essential step on the way to Ukraine's accession to the EU.
A significant example of Slovakia's support is its participation in Ukraine's recovery programs. Shmyhal noted that these projects open up new opportunities for Slovak companies, create jobs and increase the competitiveness of both countries. Joint initiatives in energy and infrastructure will become a driving force for further development of the border regions and strengthening of cooperation between the two states.
In addition, the Prime Minister of Ukraine reminded that a significant part of electricity imports to Ukraine is already carried out from Slovakia, and this country has never refused help. Robert Fico assured that Slovakia will continue to provide emergency energy supplies so that Ukraine can successfully survive the winter period even in the event of blackouts.
Fico also supported the idea of integrating the Ukrainian energy system into the single energy network of the European Union. At the next European summit, Slovakia will propose a systemic solution for long-term support of Ukraine's energy infrastructure, as most of its facilities have been seriously damaged.
Concluding his speech, the head of the Slovak government announced another package of humanitarian aid to support Ukraine's energy system, which will be an important step in strengthening Ukrainian energy stability and security.
