  • Norwegian technology in action. Ukraine will produce 155-mm shells

    Опубликовано: 2024-08-26 10:00:40

The Norwegian government has opened the way for the transfer of domestic defense technologies to Ukraine. This means that artillery shells manufactured using the technology of the Norwegian company Nammo can be produced in Ukraine.

This is stated on the website of the Norwegian government.

"Ukraine has a great need for artillery ammunition in order to be able to resist Russian aggression. Our government has taken a number of steps to increase the production of artillery ammunition in Norway. At the same time, we see that it is important to strengthen the capabilities of Ukrainians in the production of modern artillery ammunition in Ukraine," he said Prime Minister Jonas Gar Stere.

It is noted that the Nammo company concluded an agreement that facilitates the establishment of the licensed production of 155-mm artillery shells in Ukraine by a Ukrainian defense company with Norwegian funds.

"Norway makes its contribution by providing ammunition free of charge from its own stocks and directly from industry. Now Nammo wants to share its recipe with Ukraine. This means that the Ukrainian forces will be able to receive supplies faster," said Norwegian Defense Minister Björn Arild Gram.

We should add that in March the Norwegian government allowed Norwegian defense companies to apply to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a license to transfer technology to Ukraine. Nammo applied and received approval.

As Oleksandr Kamyshin, Minister of Strategic Industries, said, negotiations with the Norwegian-Finnish Nammo have been going on for a long time.

"And I am glad to announce that today the Norwegian government not only allowed the transfer of a license for the production of NATO-caliber artillery shells to a Ukrainian company, but also agreed to finance this process," he said in his message.

He noted that this is already the second license for the production of 155-mm projectiles in Ukraine — the first was a license from KNDS/Nexter.

In addition, the minister thanked for the support of local production, because producing as many shells as possible in Ukraine is important both from the point of view of efficiency and logistics, and from the point of view of the economy.
