  • Fighting postpartum depression

    Опубликовано: 2024-04-20 15:28:11

Many expectant mothers, caring about their own and the future health of the baby, try to prepare for childbirth. But few people realize that after childbirth can begin serious difficulties. Postpartum depression, protracted and prolonged, can affect a woman for a year or even longer, if you do not take measures to overcome it. The causes of such depression can be both psychological and biological.

Fighting the psychological aspect of depression is not an easy task, it is during this period that a woman especially needs the support of others. Hormonal changes that occur in the body after childbirth can cause a lot of unpleasant feelings. The body is experiencing a significant load, transitioning from pregnancy to lactation. It has to change the usual way of life and adjust to the mode of the newborn baby.

Obviously, such changes do not pass without a trace. To maintain quality lactation and high fat content in breast milk, the mother needs to consume food rich in calories, which often leads to weight gain. Such changes in appearance do not always meet the expectations of young moms, which can cause depression. It is important to realize that taking care of breastfeeding is more important than a slimmer figure, as the figure can be regained later, but the lost time with the baby cannot be regained.

To reduce the risk of postpartum depression, it is useful to attend childbirth preparation courses, where expectant mothers are taught how to care for the baby. Having familiarized herself with the expected difficulties after childbirth, the woman will be better prepared for them, which will reduce the risk of depression.

It is important to avoid nervous breakdowns and panic at mistakes or failures. It is useful to communicate with women who have already experienced the joys of motherhood, and learn their secrets that will help to successfully cope with childcare and housekeeping.

It is also helpful to spend time at playgrounds where moms gather with their children. Watching moms interact with their children and listening to the advice of experienced mothers can be a valuable source of information that no book can replace.
