The total amount of damage caused by shelling of Ukraine's energy system reaches $11.5 billion

According to government sources, the total amount of damage caused by the shelling of Ukraine's energy system is estimated at $11.5 billion. However, this figure does not take into account the latest large-scale attack on the Ukrainian energy sector, which took place on March 22.

This was reported by Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grinchuk.

"We actively cooperated with the World Bank, which conducted a global study of energy sector losses as a result of the attacks. And during the war, excluding the last attack, it was $11.5 billion," said Hrinchuk.

It is noted that the large-scale attack on March 22 will also be estimated at significant amounts, possibly billions of dollars, due to the huge damage caused.

"Facilities throughout Ukraine were attacked and damaged. These are both generation facilities and electricity distribution and transmission facilities. About a million consumers were left without electricity," emphasized Ms. Grinchuk.

The situation in Kharkiv region is the most difficult. There are hourly power cuts there.

"In Kharkiv and Kharkiv region, it is impossible to restore electricity supply quickly. We are clearing the debris, assessing the possibilities of repairing and replacing equipment, searching for this equipment throughout Ukraine and cooperating with partners," she emphasized.

According to recent reports, on the night of March 22, Russian troops used cruise missiles from Tu-95MS aircraft. Their actions resulted in damage to facilities in Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Khmelnytsky, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Dnipro, and Kharkiv regions.

Ukraine's largest hydroelectric power plant, DniproHES, was also attacked.

According to Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko, this was the largest attack on the Ukrainian energy sector in recent years.
