The Latvian government plans to continue its financial support for the reconstruction of Chernihiv Oblast by allocating an additional EUR 5 million in 2024. This decision was announced by President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs during a joint press conference with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.

In 2023, the Latvian government has already provided EUR 5 million to rebuild the infrastructure of Chernihiv region after the military events. This assistance is part of the Ukrainian-Latvian cooperation and reflects Latvia's commitment to help rebuild the affected areas.

Commenting on this step, President Rinkēvičs noted that the Latvian government is making efforts to actively participate in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Chernihiv region. Private entities are also investing their resources in this process.

According to him, the government intends to continue this initiative, planning to allocate another 5 million euros for the restoration of the region next year. This demonstrates Latvia's firm intention to contribute to Ukraine's economic recovery through concrete investments.

President Rinkēvičs emphasized that the assistance is not limited to financial contributions and expressed confidence that these funds will be used properly and effectively to rebuild infrastructure and support the people of Chernihiv region.
